On August 23, 2026 (the 11th day of the 7th lunar month), the Fa Yi Chong De Australian Sydney Taoist Centre successfully held a Ghost Festival (Zhongyuan Pudu) ceremony and Peace feast at the Hui De Buddhist temple.
The 15th day of the seventh lunar month is the traditional Chinese festival of Zhongyuan Festival, commonly known as the "Ghost Festival." This day combines the cultural connotations of Confucian filial piety and ancestor worship, Taoist earth god's pardon for sins, and the Buddhist Ullambana Festival. Its core is to remember ancestors, express gratitude to parents, and provide salvation for wandering souls. It is an important festival for Chinese people to express their respect and remembrance for deceased parents and relatives.
The Centre first conducted a solemn ceremony of offering ritual, incense burning, and kowtow.
Led by the Tao transmitting masters, the Tao members and other attendees paid homage to their ancestors, offering incense and expressing gratitude. They appreciated the passing of their ancestors and prayed for the well-being of all beings.
The Tao seniors of the temple led the participants in chanting scriptures, dedicating the merit to all sentient beings in the Dharma realm. Dozens of participants resolved to seek the Tao and join the temple's practice of universally saving sentient beings.
The Tao Centre prepared a sumptuous and delicious vegetarian meal for all Tao members, purifying the mind and body, respecting life, and embodying the spirit of sincerity and reverence through moderation in eating.
Thanks to the generous support and sacrifices of all Tao seniors of all temples, the event was a complete success.
